Figurae
Figurae is a publication series of the Jagiellonian University Press, focusing on books that are difficult to fit into a strictly defined research space. At the core of the series there are the borderlands of disciplines, the margins of culture, mirabilia – fascinating space of interaction between art, literature and language, which scholars are still reluctant to enter despite their constant striving for inter- and transdisciplinarity. The issues dealt with in the series revolve around the study of culture, from the earliest times to the present, in both practical and theoretical dimensions. They include multifaceted (historical, literary, linguistic or sociological) studies of images, depictions, representations, as well as the theoretical foundations of their analysis, especially with regard to imago-verbum relations. The specificity of Figurae revolves around images that are unusual, peculiar, strange or often simply lost in the thicket of history, whose scientific ‘biographies’ will make up this series.
